Out with the Old, In with the New
This post is long, but please read!
I don’t believe “out with the old, in with the new.” Today’s society is all about consumerism, and I know you’re scratching your head thinking, “Isn’t she a fashion blogger that wears the latest trends?” No, I really don’t!
Perfect example: I purchased these Frye boots five years ago before over-the-knee boots were even a trend. I vividly remember wearing them with a dress and a certain family member saying with a side eye, “those look a little ‘Pretty Woman-ish.” Even funnier? The label on the back of these heels says, “FRYE THE COMPANY” which long ago dropped “the company” and has simply been Frye.
Lately, I’ve had quite a few DM’s asking why the exact items I wear aren’t linked on my LikeItToKnowIt page. I answer the question exactly like this:
“At least half the things you see me wear are either 5-10 years old, bought recently on clearance and sold out, or were bought on luxury consignment. I literally scour the Internet and link to similar items in case you’re interested in shopping for a similar look.”
You know what real beauty is? You can determine how YOU want to recreate the look with the suggestions I give you. Think of me as your personal stylist vs. a blogger wanting to you to be a cookie cutter of exactly what I’m wearing head to toe.
Nothing I’m wearing is currently in stores, but I’ve done my darnedest to find similar items I would personally buy to recreate the look.
Sweater: Express (30 bucks! Exact one linked, on clearance, in stores now, only a couple left)
Jeans: AG Jeans (8 years old, but similar styles linked)
Boots: You already know, Frye the Company!
Purse: Vintage Louis Vuitton bag that I just found on Tradesy!

Art and Expression
Deep Ellum is one of my favorite places to shoot because of the vivid street art backdrops.
Dallas has commissioned many artists to paint beautiful murals throughout the neighborhood. * These are legal, but the vandalistic graffiti (ugly, bubbly letters) are not.
Art is about creativity, expression, freedom, and thought-provoking subjects. I use my blog and Instagram to get creative things out of my system // Street artists use specific public locations as their medium.
Bottom line, Art (it deserves to be capitalized) makes me feel alive. It inspires and motivates me to think outside of the box.
What about you? Do you have a favorite mural in Dallas and, if so, do tell! I’ll do my next photoshoot there and tag you in a pic!
Y’all! I did some digging and found this Cinq à Sept butterfly jacket I’ve had for a while WAAAAAAYYY discounted. These slouch leather boots are half off, too! BUT if you can only buy one thing, this Nordstrom ruched bodycon dress is ONLY $30 and is available in lots of colors. Without a doubt, you’ve seen it on a ton of your favorite bloggers. Including me – wink!

Things I’m Excited About This Fall
Do you feel it? It’s officially fallinter (Fall and Winter are one season here in Texas)! Here’s my list of fabulous things to be excited about:
PSL: 15 years ago, Starbucks introduced their pumpkin spice latte and they’ve served over 350 million lattes!! Needless to say, pumpkin farmers are laughing all the way to the bank.
Sweaters: There’s nothing better than a big, warm, cable knit sweater over skinny jeans with…
Boots: Ankle boots, knee-length boots, and over-the-knee boots. I don’t discriminate! However, you must pay attention to the shaft height, heel height, and circumference and know your measurements so you can find the most flattering brand and style for your legs. There’s nothing worse than slouching, sad boots on skinny legs or circulation problems from boots too tight.
Less shaving and fewer pedicures: Right??
Football: Go Cowboys and Aggies!
Fire: I may be on the pyromaniac spectrum because I’m like a moth to a flame. My first memory was making s’mores with my dad at a bonfire, so there ya go!
What about YOU? Let me know what you’re enjoying most about this season!

#NationalEatARedAppleDay
It’s #NationalEatARedAppleDay ! Check out these seven reasons you should stock up on apples, NOW!
1. Anti-aging. A new study showed that apples contain “flavonoids” which are the most potent antioxidants and are proven to slow down aging.
2. Fiber. Only one apple a day has 15-20% of the daily fiber for digestive health and lowering cholesterol. Turns out an apple a day WILL keep the doctor away!
3. Thirst. Did you know apples are 86 percent water? You’re basically doubling your water intake by eating an apple with your bottle of water.
4. Weight. New studies show that women who eat 3 (three!) apples daily are more likely to lose weight than those who don’t.
5. Vitamins. Packed with Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Vitamin A, Calcium, Iron and Potassium
6. Skin. Always leave the skin on – it’s where most of the nutrients are!
7. Delicious. Apples with peanut butter are my go-to snack. I use organic peanut butter powder for a healthy substitute for peanut butter.
Comment if you’re going to start eating more apples!

THIS WAS SUCH A FUN READ! I ESPECIALLY LOVE THE FIRST TOPIC. I FEEL THE SAME ABOUT SHARING STYLE, NOT CLOTHES TO BUY RIGHT NOW. I LOVE SHOWING MY FOLLOWERS TO HOW TO STYLE WHAT THEY OWN.
Hello Whitney says
Glad you agree, Holly! Thanks for reading!

First, I will eat more apples lol. But I do the same thing as far as fashion. I keep up with my items AND I am able to keep for years at a time especially SHOes. I am enjoying the self care I am able to get done this season!
Hello Whitney says
I think that wearing clothes for years really justifies buying high-quality items that you love! Thanks for commenting!

Love the butterfly jacket! Also, I totally agree with your stance on the nature of consumerism and “disposable fashion.” We don’t need to update our wardrobe every week; it’s bad for our wallet and bad for the planet. I have outfits i’ve been wearing for over ten years. However, sometimes my mom does force me to throw out clothes (or throws them out behind my back) because they literally have holes in them lol.
Hello Whitney says
Thank you! That jacket is one of my favorites 🙂 Great point about the planet as well – I’m all about sustainable fashion!
Liz Bayardelle says
Your anti-hoarder mentality is so refreshing! I love someone whose clothes express the inside of their hearts, not the inside of their wallets.
Hello Whitney says
Thanks so much, Liz! I’m definitely all about reflecting my personality in my clothes 🙂
