There’s a lot that goes into being in front of the camera – a lot. Luckily, you can make your next big event, makeover, or blog shoot a huge success with my 3 favorite style apps for outfits, makeup, and hair.
Disclaimer: This post isn’t about photo editing apps; I use the ones listed below to plan my looks. I’ll publish a separate blog post explaining the editing process and apps I use for my final Instagram and blog images.
GlamOutfit App
This app has single-handedly saved me hundreds (maybe thousands) of dollars by making it easy to shop my closet. I feel a little twinge of guilt when I find something in my closet that’s unworn and has a tag *still* attached. Enter my nosedive into the oblivion of comparing closet organizing apps until I settled on GlamOutfit.
First of all, it’s free. Sure, it takes some time to upload your closet items, but it’s great motivation to get rid of 99 white shirts that all look the same. Who has time to take 100 photos? Other than for a blog shoot, no one! (Yes, it sometimes takes hundreds of photos to get a handful of decent ones.)
*I would recommend for the sake of sanity to make this a progressive project by splitting up sections of your closet. I set aside 30 minutes a day and was done by end of the week. If I can do it, YOU can do it. Guaranteed.
Below, you’ll find some of the reasons GlamOutfit is one of my favorite style apps.
Pros:
- Access your entire closet, which is now digitally synced across all devices (even desktop) with unlimited wardrobe space.
- Plan weekly #OOTD(s), blog shoot outfits, date night outfits and TRAVEL packing lists! (I’m already planning my trip to Italy in 2 weeks)
- Upload photos of your own OR from the web.
- Automatically remove the background of clothing pictures for easy outfit planning.
- Don’t know what to wear? A personal stylist can help you pick an outfit from YOUR closet!
- Hashtag search options depending on how you labeled keywords: #spring, #summer, #dresses, #etc
- Access a stylish community with lots of outfit inspiration
Sephora Virtual Artist App
Once I choose my outfit, I head over to this app to coordinate my makeup.
Prepare to get sucked in for the better half of your afternoon, which is why this is one of my favorite style apps! Located within the SEPHORA app, this feature is nestled way down in the left toolbar labeled “Virtual Artist”. Using your face, photos OR videos, it has 3 options:
- Pre-set “looks” that have been created by makeup artists (think smoky, daytime, evening, etc.)
- Makeup tutorials that direct you to various videos depending on the topic you’re looking for – “how to do no-makeup makeup”, etc.
- “Try On Products” is the goldmine. The designer behind this feature is brilliant – I’ve tried multiple makeup apps, but this is by far the most detailed! For eyes, there are endless color shades for lids, creases, and outer corners. They even have the option to pick a specific palette and play with those colors. For instance, instead of spending hours in front of the mirror creating looks from my favorite Anastasia shadow palette, I can play with those exact shades in different variations on the app. Finish the look and choose the most flattering color combo for eyes, lips, blush, eyeliners, AND lashes which all have endless colors/styles to choose from as well.
*The purpose of this app is to help you try on makeup before you buy it, but use the shades selected as a guide to using your own makeup with similar shades.
HairStyleSalon
Like the Sephora app, this is a virtual interface that uses your face to “try on” different hairstyles, colors, and cuts. If you’re thinking about chopping your hair off or dying it purple, this app might save you from a salon catastrophe and a “what was I thinking” meltdown.
At this point, I’ve spent valuable time planning the outfit and makeup, so I finish the entire look with the perfect hairstyle.
Let me stop and make this clear: I am in yoga clothes roughly 5/7 days a week – the benefits of working at home. BUT, when creating a visual canvas that a blog post should convey, pre-planning is essential for proper execution.
For instance, certain necklines don’t look good with hair up and a regular blowout may not go with a 70’s style shoot. Again, this is a creative tool that allows you to be as detailed as you wish before actually hopping in the shower.
“Style without life is just an outfit without inspiration. Create your lifestyle and wear it boldly.”
