Is it easier to celebrate yourself or others? For me, I find it much easier to celebrate anyone else other myself. Why is that? It got me pondering…
We are way too hard on ourselves! Often, we don’t see milestones as important. “Sure I trained and finished the 5K race, but it’s not a marathon, so it’s not a big deal.” I’m not a runner, so if you’re running anything over a mile, you deserve a party!
Sometimes, the attention in and of itself doesn’t feel comfortable: “Why celebrate my birthday? Getting old isn’t fun!” That was me a year ago on my 40th until a friend reminded me that my wisdom from life experiences and being healthy was a victory.
And why not celebrate yourself just because you’re YOU? When did we lose sight of the fact that we are each worthy of attention, praise, and glory? When someone compliments you, receive graciously. If someone wants to take you to lunch, accept the invitation. It’s ok to be proud of who you are in this moment, RIGHT NOW – regardless of where you are or what you’re doing.
You deserve spoiling, so here are some suggestions on how to celebrate yourself:
PAMPER
BloMeDry (locations nationwide)
When you look good, you feel good. Period. Looking at frizzy hair and chipped nail polish will set a tone of “I’m not worthy”. Block out 4 hours on your next day off, and get a blow out followed by a mani/pedi. My favorite is BloMeDry here in Dallas, but check out all their locations here. All of their stylists are great and the decor is divine! Make sure to plan a date night so others can celebrate your look with you. 🙂
SHOP
Simon Miller Bonsai purse
Here’s the deal: anything in excess isn’t good, so I’m not advocating going into debt just to celebrate yourself; BUT, (huge but), it’s incentivizing to keep your eye on the prize and reward yourself for achieving an important goal. Window shopping has become less and less popular with the surge of online shopping, so take a day and stroll through some luxury shops and department stores. Just look, don’t buy. Then, set a tangible goal that will justify you spending X amount of dollars. Remember that juice box mom promised if you shared your toys? Same thing. (I’m currently lusting for this yummy ivory Simon Miller Bonsai purse.)
FLOWERS
Don’t wait for the congratulatory bouquet from someone else to celebrate yourself. Go pick up your favorite stems from your local flower source (peonies are my fav!), and make your own special arrangement. Flowers are a visual reminder that you are special and deserving of beauty. Plus, the process of creating a floral masterpiece is extremely cathartic…try it and see. (Trader Joe’s has the best selection, price, and duration: my hydrangeas have lasted over a week!)
POPPIN’ BOTTLES
La Marca Prosecco, $13.99
There’s something about a beautiful crystal flute of bubbles that screams “I’m special!”. You don’t have to spend a fortune on French champagne – there’s plenty of Prosecco options that taste expensive and luxurious. La Marca Prosecco is my favorite Italian prosecco that’s perfectly dry and perfectly priced – at $15 a bottle, you should keep a couple bottles in your fridge like me!
I really hope these tips motivate you to celebrate yourself. I would love to hear any more suggestions you have for me. CHEERS TO YOU!

I love all of these suggestions! I just treated myself to a bottle of the La Marca the other day at a friend’s house for Bubbles and Brunch! That cute purse is seriously unusual too, I might deserve one of those too! Charlie xo

Oh, I agree! But there are so many ways to pamper yourself affordably or for free. It’s all about the mindset behind it! 🙂

Lovely Post – I buy myself flowers often, pick them from the garden too. My husband ;loves flowers too and often buys them too – people ask if he’s in trouble with me? what’s that all about? Love Bec

Yaas honey, we should all celebrate our fierce selves. I think we are all too quick to put ourselves down and not often enough do we give the much deserved love to the most important person in our lives – us! p.S the the bubbly looks *lovely*. Gonna hunt that down now.

I always tell folks that you should keep one bottle of champagne (or other bubbly) in your fridge at all times. you never know what you may need to celebrate! nothing is too small to celebrate with a glass of champagne, imho. 😉

I don’t think we celebrate ourselves enough. To celebrate myself, I make sure to get in daily movement because I always feel better. I also love a nice soak in the bath when time allows.
Hello Whitney says
I agree! Baths are such wonderful stress relievers 🙂
