Millions of people work remotely from the comfort of their own homes, and that’s increased dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even if you miss your co-workers and want to get back to your normal work environment, there’s a lot to be thankful for: snacks whenever you want, all-day snuggles with your dog or cat, and comfy clothes.
But how can you be comfortable all day without being ashamed to jump on a quick Zoom call? I’ve put together some of my favorite tricks for stay-at-home style.
7 Outfit Hacks for Working from Home
Choose popular patterns
If you’re wearing the right pattern, you can get away with almost anything. Trendy prints make even the most exhausted employee look current and aware. Pick something like camouflage or floral, both of which are flattering and in style right now.
Avoid outfits that look like, well, pajamas
Wearing pajamas and sweats may feel comfy, cozy, and normal when Zoom is turned off but you’ll feel silly when your meeting starts and you’re the only one wearing flannel. Comfortable clothes can still look put together — choose muted colors, simple patterns, appropriate fabrics, and pieces that aren’t too bold.
Embrace athleisure
The athleisure trend has been showcased in countless fashion shows around the world and is basically stylish sportswear. How can you dress it up? Layer on fashionable accessories like earrings, scarves, necklaces, and bracelets.
Throw on a duster
Are you already wearing a plain tee and some adorable comfy pants? Just throw on a decorative duster and you’ll look polished in seconds. There’s no need to completely change your clothes for a 20-minute conference call! Plus, it ends up being the perfect outfit for your next essential grocery store run.
Rely on solids
Two solid prints make an acceptable (if not adorable) outfit for those at-home Zoom calls. Think: faded jeans and a pocket tee, or some loose-fitting canvas gauchos with a cozy sweater. The options are virtually! Add a playful print with a head/neck scarf for bonus points.
Choose complementary colors
Certain colors look better next to others; just ask your elementary school art teacher. Complementary colors are located opposite of one another on the color wheel and create gorgeous, bold palettes and outfits. Don’t be afraid of them; instead, play them up to create interesting styles!
Embrace formless fashion
An ensemble doesn’t have to hug your curves to make you look great and formless fashion is all the rage right now! Soft sweater dresses, button-up boyfriend shirts, and flowing skirts impress without making you feel overdressed. Simply add layers to make things interesting or wrap a belt around your waist for a quick, tailored look.

When working from home, it is possible to be comfortable and stylish at the same time! Don’t be afraid to play with patterns and styles, and you’ll be sure to look chic for your next Zoom call.
